History of Puerto Rico

During the fifteenth century, Taino Indians inhabited Puerto Rico, and they called it Boriquem which means "land of the great lords".

On November 19th, 1493, Christopher Columbus discovered Puerto Rico on his second voyage to the New World. He found there to be 50,000 Taino Indians on the Island, and later Puerto Rico would become Spain's most important military outpost in the Caribbean.
